01Emergencies
02Not a diagnosis
Our tests and reports provide information about your health. They are not a diagnosis, and a result in or outside a reference range doesn't on its own mean you're healthy or unwell. Results should be interpreted alongside your symptoms, medical history and examination by a qualified clinician.
03Your GP and the NHS
Our services work alongside, not instead of, your GP and NHS services. Please speak to your GP about any symptoms, before changing any prescribed medication, or if a result worries you. Our tests don't replace NHS screening programmes (such as breast, bowel and cervical screening) or NHS Health Checks.
04If you have symptoms
Don't wait for a test result if you have symptoms. See your GP promptly if you notice, for example, unexplained weight loss, blood in your stool or urine, a lump, persistent pain, or a change in bowel habit lasting three weeks or more.
05Specific tests
- PSA: a raised PSA has many causes and doesn't always mean cancer; a normal PSA doesn't rule it out. Please read the NHS information on PSA testing before you order.
- DNA tests: show statistical genetic tendencies, not certainties, and are not designed to detect single-gene conditions such as BRCA mutations. A low genetic tendency doesn't mean no risk.
- Gut microbiome tests: describe your gut microbes and can't diagnose IBS, inflammatory bowel disease or bowel cancer.
- EatIQ™ IgG food antibody profile: IgG antibodies usually reflect exposure to a food. This is not a test for food allergy or intolerance. Don't exclude foods long-term or reintroduce foods you know you react to without professional advice.
- Fertility markers (e.g. AMH): can't predict your chance of natural conception.
06Accuracy and limitations
Laboratory tests are highly reliable but no test is perfect. Results can be affected by sample quality, timing, medicines, supplements (such as biotin) and other factors. Reference ranges can differ between laboratories.
